I hope you all are having a great weekend! #SixforSunday is a weekly meme hosted by Steph @ A Little But a Lot. This week’s theme is about our favorite first books in a series. I don’t think there’s anything more satisfying than reading a new book and realizing it’s the start of what is sure to be a really fantastic series!
1. ANGELFALL
When I first read Angelfall, I was obsessed. I literally reread the entire book as soon as I finished it. I talked about it nonstop to my roommates. Everything I loved about the first book continued into the second, but unfortunately the last book of this trilogy was subpar. It was very obvious that author was forced to wrap up the original five book series into one final book.
2. THE CITY OF BRASS
This book blew me away. This is a 500 page book which I read in less than two days because I couldn’t put it down. It had everything I wanted in a fantasy book: action and adventure, slow-burn romance, complex characters, and political intrigue. The other books in the series haven’t stood up to this, however, The City of Brass remains one of the greatest series starts I’ve read.
3. FIREBORNE
I knew while reading this that it was going to be my favorite book of 2019. Finishing this book left me feeling utterly speechless. The political intrigue, turmoil, and moral dilemmas are intricately written and intoxicating. I’m itching to get my hands on the sequel and am praying I get a chance to read an ARC because I don’t think I can wait until 2021.
4. A GAME OF THRONES
The fact that I was such a huge fan of the show definitely made a difference when reading this, but by love and appreciation for the story was all its own. The first book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series lays the groundwork for all the political plots and betrayals to come. I’ve loved all of the books in this series so far, but the first one has such a special place in my heart.
5. THE POPPY WAR
The Poppy War is one of the most impressive debuts I’ve ever read. It’s the start to a grimdark fantasy featuring a fierce heroine, addictive writing, and plenty of action. This is one of those books that leave an impact on you for a very long time. Honestly, I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves strong heroines and fantasy books. And the series only gets better from here!
6. STRANGE THE DREAMER
Anyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with this book. When I finished this, it quickly earned the title Favorite Book. It’s one of those stories that sticks with you for a long time. I loved the imaginative, magical world and vivid descriptions Laini Taylor created. I don’t buy a lot of bookish merch, but if it’s Strange the Dreamer related, you can bet I’m getting it.
I need to read The Poppy War & Strange The Dreamer, I’ve heard amazing things about both! hopefully I will read them this year finally 😍✨👏🏻
