I love reading military memoirs, but I won’t lie and say that my decision to read Lone Survivor was not 100% based on my love for the movie. I’m pleased to say that the book was just as thrilling as the film! Lone Survivor is an incredible story of bravery, heroism, faith, and perseverance. It was unbelievable reading what Marcus Luttrell had to go through and everything he had endured. I’m usually hesitant about picking these kind of books up because I don’t want to read a dry story that simply recounts events. I want action, excitement, and heart. I like to be able to vividly picture in my mind the events unfolding. Lone Survivor definitely delivered that. The prose was not full of flowery adjectives and metaphors. It read like Marcus Luttrell decided to sit down with you and tell his tale. It’s personal, and therefore it’s raw and full of heart. This is one of my favorite military memoirs and I’m so glad that I finally got around to reading it. Lone Survivor is truly an inspirational story of courage, determination, and surviving against all odds.
